More cards - Inspiration from pinterest

I have lots of great ideas pinned.  Cards for her and cards for him.  Time to actually do something with it.  Sometimes it is just one part of the card, sometimes it is the colours and sometimes it is the whole thing that inspires.  I hadn't scrapped for over a month, so feeling rather rusty there was nothing like some inspiration to get me started.  Once I started I didn't want to stop!

This one is from a fun card that I found at Love My Tapes.  Thinking that it would have worked better using the same colours.  Love the circle stitching.
Colours:  crumb cake, pumpkin pie, early espresso, wild wasabi, real red
Stamps:  stylish sentiments - birthday (PTI), simply serif alpha (SU)
Finishing touches:  pinwheel (kaiser), brads, stitching, toothpicks, washi tape, circle punches

This one was a simple card by Debby at Lime Doodle Designs.  I liked the clean lines and colours for a guy.
Colours: white, wild wasabi, black
Stamps: splatter background (IO), game on (PTI)
Finishing touches:  circle cutter and corner rounder (SU) tiny tags die (PTI), black pen and ruler

This card was from this card by Dawn McVey.  I love the colour combinations that she uses.  I CASED this one using things from my stash.
Colours:  sahara sand, baja breeze, daffodil delight, black
Stamps: headline alphabet (PTI)
Finishing touches:  for the record papers(ep), washi tape, vanilla flower trim and antique brad (SU), baja breeze seam binding ribbon (SU)

I discovered A Bit East-coast blog and love the colours and shapes that she uses.  These cards are inspired by this card and this one
Colours:  basic grey, white, cherry cobbler
Stamps:  newsprint background (impression obsession), background basics - text style and retro (PTI), punctuation (KP), everyday (LYB),

Challenge Me Happy #43

I went looking for a challenge and found one at Challenge Me Happy.

My pages usually start with a photo.  Being out numbered by boys I dug into my photos.  Nice to do something girly for a change.  Once I had gathered up the bits and pieces I thought I would use, I started laying down the layers that I wanted.  The fun was in putting together the embellishments.  I especially enjoyed getting back to stitching on my layouts.

I often think that 'if I only knew in the past what I know now'.  An important reminder.  Whoever you are be you.

Stamp Club Challenge - February

It was my turn for hostess at stamp club last month and so my turn to come up with the challenge for the next month. It is always tricky to come up with something that everyone has access to. With Saleabration on it was a perfect inspiration for the challenge.  Use some or all of the colours, layouts or images on any of the pages.
These were the images I used.  I also stuck with the colour combo.

Colours:  very vanilla, tangerine tango, not quite navey, baja breeze
Stamps:  birthday whimsy and lots of thoughts (SU), punctuation (kelly panacci)

Christmas Cards - It's Christmas in the Heart

For the last few years I have been making my Christmas cards to send out. Once I have settled on a design I get all the bits made and put them together.  {Note to self:  It all takes time from the creating, to the making, to the writing of addresses and posting.  It worked really well in past years to do it mid year.}  So this time, as not so much time was a factor, I put together a few cards for the lovely ladies that I create with at stamp club and came up with my design.

Papertrey Ink had posted some lovely colour combos with non-traditional Christmas colours that I used for the inspiration.  I was so pleased to have put them together and got them sent.

Colours:  very vanilla, garden green, tempting turquoise, old olive
Stamps: chevron stripes (PTI), heart of christmas (SU)
Finishing touches: christmas stockings embossing folders set(sizzix), peapod bakers twine (the twinery), button

Scrappin Patch - Use your stash challenge #3

Scrappin Patch has a challenge each Wednesday morning.  This week is a colour challenge.

The first card was the idea I started out with.

As I started pulling out papers and bits and pieces to work with I came up with something more detailed.  It made sense to make them both as I had all my stash out to work with.  It was great to use some of my supplies that I hadn't already played with.  Love the seam binding; ribbon for tying bows.

Watercolouring

At Stamp club we have been trying out new techniques and putting together a sample ring for reference.  Last month we looked at all the different mediums for colouring.  My sister was staying during the week and although she missed stamp club I put together some things so we could have a play with colouring.  I pulled out my Everyday Enchantment goodies from Salebration and put it together with the oval all stamps and scallop punch I had recently purchased.  Once we had coloured it,  the image was looking a little flat so rather than cut out the whole thing and add dimensionals I went for the paper pieced look.

Colours: baja breeze, calypso coral, very vanilla
Stamps: natural beauty and oval all (SU)
Finishing touches:  everyday enchantment organza ribbon, brad and DSP and scallop oval punch (SU), distressing tool, dimensionals.

A birthday card to make

My oldest was off to a birthday party . I had sorted the present and needed to make a card to go with it. Trying to come up with something girly I decided to start with a crochet flower. Thanks to a comment from Lyn who suggested to pop a pin on the back to make it part of the gift on this post.
With the flower started I was inspired by a colour combo in the new Stampin Up catalogue using their Pocket Full of Posies DSP on page 84. I used my background stamps from PTI to put together some papers of my own. Card sorted.

Colours: rich razzleberry, baja breeze, white
Stamps: background basics - retro (PTI), vintage labels (SU)
Finishing touches: crochet flower pin, button, grosgrain ribbon baja breeze, apron lace punch (fiskars), photo corner punch (SU), distress tool

Learnt to crochet

On my last visit with Mum I had a chance to learn how to crochet. WIth the basic steps and how to follow a pattern I was able to make flowers. So I have been having a play with different wool. Different thicknesses give different sizes.
Because the flower is the focus there wasn't much more to add. I made a cream flower to go with the twill tape. The colour strip was inspired by a card from Nichole Heady for the papertrey ink blog hop which you can see here. I am looking forward to using more of my new found skill.
Colours: very vanilla, riding hood red, certainly celery, tangerine tango, chocolate chip, baja breeze
Stamps: vintage labels
Finishing touches: twill tape, crochet flower, button, stitching, linen thread

A long overdue project

Well over a year ago we renovated our boys bedrooms. Mainly to get out then 7 month old out of our room and into his own. He is now 2. At the time I decided it would be fun to have a go at some small canvas off the page projects to finish of the rooms. This mainly being because there was a 50% sale on canvases at the time. And that was as far as I got. So the test pots and canvases have sat in a bag on my floor and been shifted around waiting for the motivation to get on to it. The time had come. Last week I finally got them out and got on to it.

So I started and while I had in mind what I was going to do, just a bit of the colour and some basic shapes, it didn't really pan out and look anything like something that I wanted to hang on their walls. Until I found the exact colours in striped patterned paper to add a stripe and tie it together and some rub ons. What had nearly headed for disaster turned into something that I really liked. It certainly helped that I had been learning about embracing the imperfections of our work and working then into the final product.

Now I just need to get them up on the wall.

A birthday not to miss

My amazing husband spoilt me for my birthday so I wanted something a bit different to let him know I was thinking of him. He is a real neutrals boy but I decided to go with a bit of colour. Purple seems to be the new thing. Just the ticket for trying the new DSP that I got as my hostess goodies.

Colours: white, very vanilla, concord crush, peach parfait
Stamps: style beautiful (SU), story time alpha (CDS)
Finishing touches:: in colour DSP, round tab punch, linen thread, twill tape and white signo pen(SU) calendar page, , small tag punch, button
